Lorain County Growth Partnership Attracts 500 New Jobs
Elyria, Ohio – The Lorain County Board of Commissioners is pleased to announce in conjunction with the Lorain County Growth Partnership an agreement has been reached with Teletech for the creation of 460 new jobs in Lorain County.
Teletech Holdings, Inc. is establishing a call center in Amherst Township. The new center will be located at 1230 Park Avenue in Amherst Township. This building was built as a call center and when the company consolidated operations the building sat vacant for several years. Teletech will be making renovations to the building and bringing new life into Lorain County. Commissioner Lori Kokoski states, “This is a win-win, when we can add new life to a vacant structure and bring much-needed jobs to our residents”.
Teletech will first be hiring a director, several trainers and supervisors. The majority of the jobs will be entry level positions. As Commissioner Betty Blair stated, “These are service sector jobs that will ripple through Lorain County’s employment sector and be beneficial to everyone.” Service sector jobs are where future growth lies and Lorain County is moving in the right direction.
Landing this company in Lorain County was a collaborative effort of the Lorain County Board of Commissioners and the Lorain County Growth Partnership (LCGP). Commissioner Ted Kalo is quoted as saying “This is fantastic news for Lorain County! More importantly, it once again shows the Commissioners’ vision of establishing the Growth Partnership is a success. This collaboration has leap-frogged Lorain County over other communities in the nation. What a tremendous success for the 18 month old partnership. Even greater things are on the horizon. I want to take this opportunity to thank all the partners and Teletech.”
The LCGP is working to energize Lorain County’s economic development efforts with a unified vision. Partners include Lorain County Community College, Lorain County Community Development Department, Lorain County Chamber of Commerce, Lorain County Port Authority, Team Lorain County, Team NEO, Lorain County Solid Waste, and Workforce Development. When a company expresses an interest in Lorain County, a REAL Team is pulled together that consists of the Partnership members and the team works together to provide the company all the information and assistance it needs to make the decision to locate in Lorain County.
The partners’ initial contact with Teletech was in March of 2007. At that time, the REAL Team had the company come to Lorain County Community College for a luncheon and presentation on the County and all programs available to assist them with their expansion. Following the luncheon, site visits were conducted with some of Teletech’s team, while others participated in a discussion of Lorain County’s capable workforce. County Administrator Jim Cordes has said, “The creation of 500 new jobs for Lorain County is magnificent. This shows what teamwork can accomplish.”
The REAL Team continues to work with the company to provide recruiting and training space for the 500 new employees to be hired. Candidates interested in positions are asked to apply on line today at www.hirepoint.com from a home computer, library or local job service.
